There is a Housing Crisis in Rexburg!

For those of you who do not know, Tyler and I are going back to Rexburg at the end of December/early January. We have been on a few waiting lists since September and thought that would be good enough to get in with a 4 month waiting period. BUT so far, things aren't looking so good! I've been calling every mediocure place in Rexburg and I keep hearing things like, "We have a 45 person waiting list with 7 moving out" or a 25 person waiting list with the same amount of move outs. In fact, it is estimated that 150 married students at BYU-Idaho will be without housing in January and so far we fall into that category. I don't know what we are going to do exactly besides pray and continue looking. Here's what I found on Craig's List today:

It is 10 minutes from Rexburg and the Sand Dunes and it is also extremely isolated. I think it would be more for an Idahoan Mountain Man and his shaggy wife than for Tyler and me. Yet the fireplace is tempting!
Needless to say, THE HUNT CONTINUES!!!

haha that would be awesome if you lived there! haha. I know Aspen probably will have openings. It's' not the nicest place... but it's worth a try- and you'd be in my ward!

good luck finding a place that place looks a little fun but more for a get away than somewhere to live and try to go to school

I am sure of it that a better place is going to become available for you guys...keep looking. Oh my goodness I laughed out loud when I saw that place. However, there are some perks like you said the fire place. I know it will all work itself out; Keep looking

have you been checking on the byu-idaho housing website? they have people posting there all the time, you do have to check like 30 times a day, i posted our apartment there this summer and i got about 20 phone calls and sold it in one day...good luck!

I saw you blog throgh my sister in law's (Jill Jackson). I work for a property management company in Rexburg called Open Spaces Property Management. Check out our website at www.OpenSpacesPM.com. We jsut had a mobile home come available for $325 a month, and I can totally feel for how frustrating it is to find a place to live here. We also have some really cute townhomes available.

LOL. We live further out than that. It's nice to have no neighbors. Sometimes, but other times I miss being around everyone. It's so beautiful out here though. I wonder exactly where that home is. I'm right up against the sand dunes, though.

I'm so tempted to buy one of the condo's that are sitting empty (because there are a lot) and rent that out since there are so many married couples homeless. BUT. I fear for the damage people would do and I would be responsible for. And the payment considering the fact that we are saving to build a home for ourselves. :)

I'm keeping my ears open, but it's hard when I'm in a family ward out in the boonies.

I love it! I think you should move there...but Tyler may have to grow a beard, and you may need to start wearing flannel...
